This photo from Mark Webber's wreck on Sunday in Sao Paolo shows that the Porsche 919 uses a transverse mounted V4 engine. I don't think Porsche ever released that info before (if they did, I just missed it, personally)
edit: naaaa son, the car is fucking ripped in half, homie
at 1:42, you can see the crash
PS: #aussiegrit himself had no more than a concussion, doesn't remember the crash, was kept overnight at the hospital but he was released after just a night.

That is interesting. I wonder why they went V4, instead of flat?

I think it's the same reason Audi and Toyota opted for V6 Turbodiesel and V8 gasoline respectively.
Lots of simulation and research showed they thought it was faster when paired with their electrical system of choice. The beauty of racing (especially WEC LMP1-H) is that it's the purest form of high profile racing showing that there are many methods to skin a cat. All 3 makers had wins this year... Toyota was the quickest, Audi was the slowest (ok.. I think it's fairer to say instead "least quicker") and Porsche was the better balance of the 2 overall
I love WEC. It's the fucking shit

I do remember reading that they were using a V4, but I can't remember if it mentioned that it was mounted transversely or not.
I assume it did.

We both know there's at least a little homo there.
Especially for this.

It's not transverse mounted, the car is ripped in half.

Is there footage of the start of the crash? I was wondering who caused it.
